I am Kathleen, married to John, and a mother of 2 daughters and a son. All grown up with their own children. I am a grandmother to three grandsons and a granddaughter. I live in a little village called in Northumberland, England, UK. I am a retired teacher of Information Technology to high school children.

Becoming a children’s author.

I became a children’s author because my oldest grandson , now 10 years old, asked me if we could write a story together. We planned and plotted how to do this. Also he is very good at noticing my bad spelling and punctuation. Having a child to consult with is great because he can see the way to go in the story.

I have always enjoyed history and researched my family history back to 1600s. Writing a local history story came about by being in the right place at the right time. I attended a book launch of a book written by my cousin. His publisher invited people to have a chat with him after the event to share our memories of the town of Gateshead, north England , UK. From that conversation came a local history book.

I wrote my memoir  of a challenging time in my life. I kept a diary, or as an author called Julie  Cameron  called it, “morning pages”, before, during and after a diagnosis of a pituitary tumour which resulted in major brain surgery, and more than a year to recover. As a result I  am now  partially sighted. This means I have sight,  its just not all there.

Write about what you know.

We all have a story inside of us, whatever that might be? When I attended creative writing classes I was told  “Write about what you know”. These books thus far are what I have done and I believe all the stories reflect my life.

I have also written poetry based on my life…just like famous poets have about theirs.
